Description
1979 New Zealand Large $1 Coin – Coat of Arms | Crown-Sized
Struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this crown-sized New Zealand dollar features the national Coat of Arms on the reverse and a unique obverse portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by local artist James Berry. The only coin of its type with this obverse.
The obverse of the coin shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right wearing the Russian Fringe Tiara, which was originally given by the “Ladies in Society” to Queen Alexandra on her Silver Wedding anniversary in 1888; in tiny raised letters on the neck truncation, the artists initials JB (for [Reginald George] James Berry).
