Issued by the Royal Australian Mint, this commemorative 20 cent coin was released in 2003 to honour the selfless contributions of Australian volunteers. Designed and sculpted by Vladimir Gottwald, the reverse design symbolises the spirit of volunteerism and pays tribute to those in the community who quietly “make a difference” through acts of service and kindness.

Notably, no standard platypus 20 cent coins were issued in 2003, making this the only 20 cent coin released for circulation that year.

The obverse features the “Fourth Portrait” of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, showing the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland diamond tiara.
